Dishwasher Maintenance
There are many times we get called to a dishwasher for poor operation or foul odors. Oftentimes, these complaints are not from a failed component. Read on to see how you can optimize your dishwasher's performance.

Filters
Exact cleaning instructions will vary by make and model, however, many dishwashers that have an accessible filter that should be cleaned monthly.
Remove bottom rack.
Remove the filter, by gently turning the upper assembly a quarter turn counterclockwise and lift it out.
Most soils and residue can be removed by simply rinsing the filter with warm water. For more challenging food particles, soak the filter in a mixture of white vinegar and warm water for at least 30 minutes. You can use an old toothbrush or a sponge to gently scrub away calcium deposits or stuck-on pieces of food. It is never recommended to use a wire brush or a wire sponge, as they may damage the filter.
Drain Hose
The drain hose should be installed with what is known as a check or high loop. This loop prevents backflow of sink water into the unit.
Locate the drain connection. The drain connection is where the dishwasher’s drain hose will connect to the sink’s garbage disposal or the sink’s drain itself.
Create a check loop in the dishwasher's drain hose by elevating the hose higher than the output at the drain connection.
Secure in place using clamps or zips ties.
